Coronavirus vs CBD

We hope that everyone is staying safe and taking care right now. During this global health outbreak we have found ourselves in a time of uncertainty, and the most important thing to do is take precautions, and look after yourself so that you can look after others.

We’ve had a few requests from our community asking how CBD and cannabinoids could be used for viral diseases - so we’re going to bring you a quick summary of all the research that has been carried out across this area.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 is a new virus and there is no research or proof to say that CBD could be used to directly prevent or cure it. With this in mind, it is important to be weary of brands and companies who try to make these claims. Previous research has looked into the effect of CBD in viruses such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Kaposi Sarcoma.[1]

Scientists believe that CBD deserves further study in the field of viral infection thanks to the way it interacts with the body: the endocannabinoid system. This is made up of receptors which could be effective treatment routes due to their beneficial biological properties and therapeutic potential.[2]

But while CBD and cannabinoids cannot be used to treat the current virus, an important prevention that we all must take is to look after our own health, both mentally and physically, to get through this in the best possible way. Here our some of our top CBD tips for getting through these uncertain times:

Wash and protect your hands

Washing your hands is one of the simplest ways to prevent and curb the spread of infection. Make sure you’re using soap and hot water for 20 seconds. You may have noticed your skin has become dry and cracked, which affects the essential lipid layer. To restore and protect your skin use a nourishing moisturiser to hydrate.

Stay calm and look after your mental health

It has been said that the real virus is fear. Staying on top of the news and crucial information is vital and responsable, however we can find ourselves very easily in a state of hyper coverage and overconsuming information - leaving us feeling overwhelmed and panicked. It’s crucial to stay calm. If you need to turn off your phone and stay off the internet for a few hours a day. You can also enhance your state of calm with full spectrum CBD oil.

Recover any aches and pains

Working from home might be having its effects on your posture and muscles, as well as not being able to get out and to the gym. It’s time to get innovative with some home workouts. Optimise your blood flow and circulation with heat therapy relief gel, or soothe inflamed areas with our cooling muscle relief.

We cannot say that cannabinoids can be used to treat viral infections, and in particular Covid-19. However, in the current pandemic it’s important to look after yourself in every way possible. A large aspect of this is mental wellbeing, avoiding panic, and maintaining a healthy routine from inside the house where possible. While staying at home make sure you’re also taking care of your body - exercising, relaxing, and replenishing; making yourself healthier and stronger.
